FPU and other

Tonight was our second Financial Peace University Course. Tonight went really well and we got done on schedule too. Scott is doing a great job leading the discussion. I told him he would be ready to be a Sunday School teacher after this. There is a lot of good stuff to pick up from this class. I have already gotten more out of it than I expected. It was hard to focus tonight. First my sinuses were killing me and then the medicine kicked in and I was in some drugged stupor. The next dose is beginning to work, so I guess I am done for the night. I hope I don't give this to Sarah and the kids. I guess the weather tomorrow will help keep me quarantined so I don't spread this around the congregation too much.

Need for Prayer

  03/18/08 16:11, by , Categories: Church Life
So we made the announcement on Sunday. We are forming a pulpit committee to evaluate a candidate who has come to our attention for the position of Associate Pastor. It is a powerful thing to watch God's church seek His will. The biggest need we will have through this process is prayer. We need the church to devote much time to prayer in the question of whether God is bringing this man to us. This is God's church and only He can guide us with sufficient wisdom.

Something New

  03/11/08 15:45, by , Categories: Church Life
Tonight we start our Financial Peace University course. When Scott first suggested it, it was new to me and I wondered whether it would be good for us. Scott's enthusiasm was great and since our whole goal is to let people lead, I encouraged him to proceed. Response has been greater than either of us could have anticipated. I am very excited. This is a great opportunity for us not only to be taught, but to reach out to those in our community who want this kind of training. I am excited that we have some non-church people joining us for the course. I am also excited about the new picture directory. There had been a lot of talk about needing to do a new directory and then the rep for Olan Mills just drops by. We put out the sign up sheet early and already have had good response. This will be a great way for us to further build up the body. There are other developments in the works that have great potential. It is neat to see God working. You don't always know what He is doing or where He is going, but to see His hand and to be aware that He is at work among His people is a great and humbling thing. BCBC is His church and any progress or growth is a result of His work and His Word. Luke 17:10 "So you too, when you do all the things which are commanded you, say, 'We are unworthy slaves; we have done only that which we ought to have done.'"

Another Stormy Weekend

  03/08/08 21:28, by , Categories: Church Life
Another weekend of unsettled weather. Mac and I talked Friday and he felt and I agreed to err on the side of caution and postpone men's breakfast a week. The forecasts were rather dire. Then the sun was out and the sky was clear!! Bummer! Well, hopefully we will have a good turnout next week, although I won't be able to go. Berea Board meeting. Oh well. I am excited for tomorrow. I hope the weather has cleared for a good turnout. We move from our Main Thing: Discipleship series into an Easter series. The two should tie together well tomorrow, not because I was trying to tie them together, but because as we focus on Jesus' life, he was all about discipleship. Holy Week services are all finished. Should be a good weekend. I am particularly excited about Good Friday service. Should be a special night I hope. Well, set your clocks back tonight or you will be late to church in the morning!!!

Interesting Thought

03/07/08 06:36, by , Categories: Church Life, Living Life
My latest copy of Newsweek has a couple of interesting articles in it that I am going to save out. They may play into a sermon or two later in the spring. One that really caught my eye was this article on complaining. Newsweek Article While I don't agree that not complaining is some sort of special key to prosperity, it is a Biblical concept. A good challenge for me and all of us.
