Snow Day Reflections

  01/12/11 17:22, by , Categories: Stray Thoughts

Finally a day to start catching my breath!  :)   It has been a busy January and while it has been a good busy, it has meant that I have done a poor job getting to the blog the last week and a half.  It is so easy to get out of the habit and then have trouble getting back into it.   It's not that I don't like writing in the blog, I really enjoy it.  It is just that you can suddenly get out of practice and then find it easy not to get back to it.

I find that some people have the same experience with church, or devotions, or any other discipline.  We are all creatures of habit and we have to work to make sure we are cultivating the rights ones and breaking the wrong ones.  That means that even though this day has started to slip away and many of the things that I hoped to accomplish today remain undone, I am going to get a blog post written and out.  It is the first step of doing better with this.

Last night I got back into another activity I had been neglecting, and that is my Spanish lessons.  I am working on learning more Spanish to be of help to me while I am in the Dominican.  I will be a far cry from fluent, but perhaps I will be able to say one or two more things than I could say last year.  Enough for a minute or two of small talk with those around me.

This is just a side note, but my computer is giving me grief.  With all my heart let me encourage you NOT to buy from HP.  I expect that devices will have issues now and then and no company is perfect, but when they refuse to even admit to or help fix and basic design flaw that effects a LOT of people, this is a company that I would not trust doing business with again.  Too bad too, for there is much to like about this machine, but...

I guess I won't go into it here on this post, but there is definitely something to be said for all the discussion about our political dialog that is swirling around the tragic shooting of Congresswoman Giffords.  Maybe tomorrow's post?  I could throw in Fred Phelps and the Westboro church into that too.

I am really looking forward to this weekend with our annual meeting.  We are going to have a special morning service to get ready for the meeting with a message that will prepare us for our time together.  It is exciting to see what God is doing in our midst!

Ok, so this was just a personal update today.  Some random musings to get the dust off my blogging cap and back into the habit.   One additional note, although you will see little difference, I was able to update the blog software today which should help with the care and upkeep of the blog.

Now I'm going to get into some trouble with my kids.  They got the game "Trouble" for Christmas and we are going to play it together.  They are all excited.  Thanks to Nate and Charlene for this gift!
