Barrier Breaker

  12/24/09 08:00, by , Categories: Stray Thoughts
Yesterday I blogged about God coming to us. He is the initiator. That got me thinking about how God removed the barrier between us. I got thinking about how we normally put that. It usually sounds like this:

"God removed the barrier of sin so that we could come to Him." or "Jesus died for us so that now we can come to Christ and be saved."

I think perhaps we could and should look at that another way. God didn't remove a barrier of us coming to Him. The barrier was keeping Him from coming to us. He desires us (James 4:5) and loves us (John 3:16) and our sin barred Him from being able to fellowship with us and connect to us, which was why we were created. Even the sinner can glorify God (Exodus 14:4) but the sinner cannot fellowship and connect with God. Christ didn't satisfy us, He satisfied God.

"This is the kind of love we are talking about--not that we once upon a time loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to clear away our sins and the damage they've done to our relationship with God." (1 John 4:10 Message)

I like how this translation expresses it. Christ removed the damage we had done so God could come. Isn't it amazing? We make the mess, God cleans it up. He removes the barrier that kept Him from coming to us because He loved us that much! Celebrate that love this Christmas. By the Way, there will be no blog the rest of the week as I take some time off to spend Christmas with my family. The blog will return sometime the middle of next week. Have a great Christmas!
